Lonad caves is a small group of ancient Buddhist rock cut caves from the 5th century. It is almost 1500years old & now caves is now converted in to a temple but the carvings and inscriptions bear testimony to its Buddhist origins which can be seen over there !! A small pond where one can find water every 365days but the source is unknown!! One can easily reach here from Savad Naka Circle..This is a historic place near Kalyan hardly 8 Km. A very peaceful place to spend some time may be better in the rainy season. Although there is not that much to see, but it is a good place to see some historical remarks. Travel towards Bapgaon road.. cross the bridge and from the second junction take the right, after 1 km you will reach to janwal gaon from there take right toward hill... with the narrow road you will reach the cave. There is a temple of khandeshwari mata. Good to see sunrise from the top of hill.

Nearest and offbeat heritage of Kalyan. Tucked away amidst the lush greenery and away from the bustling city life, Lonad Caves offers a peaceful journey. A short hike through rocky terrain leads you to the entrance of the caves, cave has grand prayer hall, small tank of water, one huge sculpture carved on a wall and temple of Devi Khandeshwari so the name Khandeshwari caves. Unlike some other well-known cave sites, Lonad caves does not have that much crowd so one can immerse in the serenity and beauty of the caves. It's evident that these caves held significant religious importance to the people who once inhabited this area. The journey to the caves is an experience in itself. A small waterfall near to the cave. It's essential to respect the historical significance of the site, please do not litter and keep the place clean. Remember to carry enough water and wear comfortable footwear. Do not forget to visit Shiv Mandir near to the Lonad Caves.
